The Pegasus team has decades of experience investing in and growing leading manufacturing companies across an array of industries.
Patrick Whelan founded Pegasus in 1997. Mr. Whelan's career in the leveraged buyout, venture capital and investment banking industries spans nearly thirty years. Mr. Whelan was recently honored as one of the "Most Influential Private Equity Investors in Los Angeles" by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
Mr. Whelan leads the investment activities at Pegasus. His contributions include identifying target companies, structuring transactions and supporting management teams post-transaction as an active Board member. Mr. Whelan currently serves as a Director of Santier and Jackrabbit and is Chairman of Midwest Automotive Designs. He is the former Chairman of WeatherGuard Building Products, Shield Pack and TOG Manufacturing and is a former Director of Borga, Calwax and Design Space.
Prior to founding Pegasus, Mr. Whelan completed merger and acquisition transactions as a Co-Managing Director for Broadview International, a leading M&A investment banking firm that was acquired by Jefferies & Company. For the six previous years, Mr. Whelan held senior positions in two different private equity firms: Abacus Ventures of Greenwich, CT and InterFirst Ventures of Dallas, TX. During his tenure at these firms, he made numerous investments in rapidly growing companies. Mr. Whelan was a founding investor and served on the Board of Directors of TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ) and Teleos Communications (NASDAQ).
Mr. Whelan holds a MBA degree in Finance from The Wharton School and is an Honors graduate of Vanderbilt University with a dual degree in Economics and Computer Science.
Luke Sage is a Partner at Pegasus Capital Group and is a member of the firm’s investment committee. He has nearly twenty years of product design, manufacturing, engineering, Asian sourcing and lower middle market private equity and investment banking experience.
Prior to Pegasus, Mr. Sage was President of Heath Capital Group, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm with a history of investments in branded consumer products companies. A Michigan native, Mr. Sage has spent many years as a sell-side investment banker, Vice President of Manufacturing leading the construction of new manufacturing plants and a profitability consultant for numerous multinational corporations. Additionally, he was Director of Process Improvement and an Industrial Engineer with various firms in the Midwest and on the East Coast.
Mr. Sage earned his BS in Industrial Engineering from Western Michigan University, where he was a James River Scholar, and his MBA in Finance from Saint Louis University.
Mr. Sieglen is responsible for transaction origination, analysis and execution, as well as portfolio management at Pegasus Capital Group. Prior to Pegasus, Mr. Sieglen worked for Lazard in Chicago as a member of their middle market advisory group. Previously, he held investment and corporate banking roles at Duff & Phelps and The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ.
Mr. Sieglen received a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College and a MBA in Finance and Management & Organizations from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Mr. Toren joined the firm in 2007 after having worked for Berent Capital, a New York-based money management firm. Berent Capital managed a $600 million interest rate swap portfolio for European institutional clients. Mr. Toren’s responsibilities at Pegasus include originating transactions as well as general office oversight. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Middlebury College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Italian and Theatre and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He also holds a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
